2.1 Introduction to learning loops and means
In this module, we will explore learning loops and means of learning. Let’s take one at a time and consider their importance and roles in supporting learning health systems.
- Learning loops are the cycles by which different actors within a health system learn by setting aims and then processing the resultant outcomes or consequences.
- Means of learning are the interconnected ways or “vehicles” that support learning within complex systems, and they include information, deliberation, and action or practice.

Module objectives
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Describe learning “loops”
- Explain the “means” of learning for health systems
- Critique the key dimensions of learning in your own health system
